In 1999 on March 06, this movement was launched in order to save the nation from a disaster and discrimination. Nobody can imagine what a disastrous atmosphere had prevailed in the education sector during that time. Chhatrobondhu Miah Abdullah Wazed former MP called upon the mass people to participate in his movement. So people joined. Diplomats and leaders from home and abroad cooperated Mr. Wazed for this movement to turn it into a social movement. Now 10 years have passed. Success is ours-Unfair means has been rooted out though not completely but overwhelmingly, disastrous atmosphere in the education sector is on the healing position. The percentage of passed students has been improved; The rate of pass of SSC examinees in 1999 was 54.13%, in 2000 41.58%, in 2001 35.22%, in 2002 41.65%, in 2003 35.91%, in 2004 48.03%, in 2005 52.57%, in 2006 62.22%, in 2007 57.37%, in 2008 72.11%, in 2009 67.41%, in 2010 79.98%. Similarly the rate of pass of HSC examinees in 1999 was 53.40%, in 2000 37.03%, in 2001 26.11%, in 2002 27.08%, in 2003 38.43%, in 2004 47.60%, in 2005 59.74%, in 2006 63.92%, in 2007 65.60%, in 2008 76.19%, in 2009 70.43%.Thanks to all who cooperated us, joined our movement and worked with us


Objectives

Our 12 Point Demands:
To save the world from a disastrous education sector, I launched the movement. More than three hundred thana committees in Bangladesh have been formed since the beginning of the movement in 1999 and till now hundreds of thousands of people have joined our movement. To forge a social movement involving people regardless of caste and creed is the aim of the movement.

Targets ( 12 Point Demands)

  • An accurate, fair and conformed education policy that can assure the blooming of humanity and job orientation as per article of the constitution of each country ( article 17 in Bangladesh).

 

  • A Member Committee comprising of real educationists and leaders of all political parties to finalize an Education Policy conforming to social values, religious teachings and job orientation.

    A Cell in the Ministry of Education to check corruption of education and to solve all prevalent problems including unfair means in examinations, to allocate highest amount in the National budget for education sector, to appoint teachers in all government, non-government educational institutions through Public Service Commission (PSC)/ related body and to assure their proper salary, bonus and social respect.

 

  • Nationalization of all registered primary schools and providing training compulsorily.

 

  • Setting up of Teacher Training Institutions in each of all the districts/ provinces to make the teachers skilled and experienced.

 

  • Giving importance to learning English language as well as native language with religious teaching beginning from the primary level.

 

  • Fixing the ratio of students and teachers in the classroom to 40:1 bringing all kindergartens, schools under one guideline and one syllabus for primary education.

 

  • Cancellation or refusal wheat/stipend or scholarship to the failed students in examination or the rule of refusal of the system of Monthly Payment Order (M.P.O) to teachers on the basis of result of public examination of the concerned institutes.

 

  • Holding Teacher, Guardian and Public meeting in every three month in educational institutions to prevent unfair means and formation of Unfair means Prevention Committee in each local government area( Upozilla in Bangladesh), steps to ensure 50% of all service activities of the N.G.Os to education, if necessary, with passing law regarding service activities.

 

  • Ban on the practice of student politics under the age of 18, keeping the Managing Committees of the educational institutions free from party politics. Formation of the committees with patrons of education of the society.

 

  • Changing the system of disallowing students bearing numbers in S.S.C/ O' level/ equivalent and H.S.C/ A level/ equivalent below the set requirements set by medical, engineering and other universities, rather to make an opportunity to all students to sit for admission test, merit lists to be prepared on the basis of admission test performance rather than on only number/division/G.P.A. in public examinations.

 

  • Process of publication of text books in Bangladesh to be ended by July and distribution by November of the same year. Informing the people of the negative impact of note books and guide books on students, granting interest free Study Loan from Banks for the poor and meritorious students willing to get higher studies.

 

  • Setting up of Information Technology Institutes (IT) in all local government area/ upozillas in Bangladesh.


In the beginning of our movement, we submitted the aforesaid targets in the form of demands to former President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh professor A. Q. M. Badruddoza Chowdhury , Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh professor Eiajuddin Ahmed.
